What do you think when you hear the word “sanctuary”? For me, sanctuary means someplace else other than home, where you can feel peaceful, where you can be yourself, and the place to run from routines, to escape just for a while. Back then when I was in Bandung, I got my sanctuary at Kineruku, but I guess that’s for another story.
Let me tell you the hidden gem that I found in Jakarta – the capital city full of horrible traffic and raging people. It’s so stressed out to live in this city. Therefore, I got so excited when I found a little hidden gem called Poetsoe Creative Space.

You know how there are so many co-working spaces in Jakarta with all those fancy interiors? Well, I quite like the idea of co-working, but oftentimes, there are just too many people and it’s too noisy. I much prefer someplace quiet and authentic. And certainly, not with the rocketing prices of their pretentious Food and Drink. Yikes! Don’t take it personally, it’s just that I’m not willing to spend so much money on Instagramable food and drink. For me, food has always been food. It has to taste good. And if it’s expensive, it’s either come in generous portions or it tastes super-good. But when it’s neither, that’s when I’m leaving.
Okay, so back to this Poetsoe. The space itself is not that big. But what I love the most is the fact that it got a little beautiful green backyard where we can hang out and read books quietly. It feels so serene.
I love everything about this place! It has open air, it’s colorful, and there’s not much people around, so it feels comfortable to work on our own stuffs. When I’m at Poetsoe, I feel like being that student at Kineruku again. Busy with my own world, my own book, my own laptop. And nothing else matters.

The Price
I usually work at the indoor meeting room at Poetsoe. Last time I got there I was charged IDR 30k for the whole day (excl. the food and drink), but today I got charged IDR 95k, I guess the price has been up. I was the only customer, I think. But they still turned on the AC just for me, what a kind owner.
So, if you’re looking for a sanctuary, a cozy spot to read your favorite book, a comfy bean bag to play with your gadget, I think you should check out Poetsoe. It’s really really nice. You won’t regret it. Food is cheap (and so good: try their nasi bakmoy!), WiFi works great, and the ambiance is just top-notch.
It’s hard for me to write this because my selfish side honestly don’t want this place to be crowded. But I know that they need lots of customers to survive the business, the way I need this sanctuary to survive my sanity, so there you go.
Hope you enjoy it just like I do!
